Customer complaint

What the customer noticed

The 12-volt RV fresh-water pump worked intermittently, and the customer had to wiggle the wires to make it operate. This is a common symptom when a SHURflo Revolution 4008 water pump or its pressure-switch assembly begins to fail.

Diagnostic findings

What inspection and testing revealed

Diagnosed the Pentair SHURflo Revolution 4008-101-A65, one of the most common 12V fresh-water pumps used in travel trailers and other RVs. The external pressure-switch connections were secure, but moving the wires changed pump operation, indicating an internal fault in the sealed pressure switch. Inspection also found the pressure-switch diaphragm leaking. The original pump was rated at 3.0 GPM and 55 PSI.

Work performed or recommended

What Sunset did or recommended

After discussing replacement of the pressure switch and diaphragm versus replacing the complete water pump, the customer chose the more dependable full-pump replacement. Removed the faulty Pentair SHURflo 4008-101-A65 and installed a SHURflo Revolution 4008-101-E65 12V RV fresh-water pump. Reconnected the plumbing and electrical supply, secured the installation, and tested pump operation and the water system for proper pressure and leaks.

Outcome and next step

Where the service call stands

The new SHURflo 4008 water pump now starts and stops correctly, supplies steady fresh-water pressure, and operates without the customer having to move the wiring. The leaking pressure-switch diaphragm and intermittent pump problem were resolved, restoring reliable onboard water service to the 2022 Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G19FD travel trailer.
